I believe that to truly learn, the learner must be involved in the learning experience.
Students participate because they have a voice. They are invested because they find their learning has relevance and application to the real world.
In every opportunity where there is true learning, the collaboration between peers stimulates the sharing of ideas, understandings, and perspectives.

My name is Maria Theresa P. Celis and I
am currently completing my final semester at California State University, Long
Beach as a graduate student of the Masters in Education, Educational Technology
and Media Leadership program. I will graduate this May. I work as a substitute
teacher for both the Orange Unified and Santa Ana Unified school districts. My
other previous teaching experience include student teaching 10th
grade World History and 11th grade U.S. History, long-term
substitution for Advanced Placement World History, summer instruction as a Math
and English teacher at Excelsius Academy in Fountain Valley, substitution for the
Westminster Unified School District, academic coaching for the Long Beach Job
Corps, and volunteering for the Long Beach Better Learning After School Today
as an on-site high school math mentor.
After graduating with a B.A. in Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley in 2011, I obtained a Preliminary Single Subject Credential in Social Science from the California State University, Long Beach in 2012. Since then, my present educational goals have been to update my teaching proficiency within the field of educational technology due to the increasing importance of its application in students’ learning. I intend to apply my knowledge of educational technology best practices and develop the classroom learning environment to be up to date, relevant, and interactive.
I hope that by utilizing the education I have obtained so far, I can better help students develop their appreciation for education and obtain their goals for success. I consider my educational experience and constant professional development as the primary strengths contributing to my professional personality as an enthusiastic and hard working teacher. I subscribe to Edublogs, the California Social-Science History Project (CSSHP), the History Teacher Journal, the Technological Horizons in Education Journal (THE), and Computer Using Educators (CUE).
I am a motivated and high- energy person who can both lead and be a great team player. I try my best to be approachable and understanding and I am dedicated to maintaining a safe learning environment. I am very proud of my ability to plan, improvise, and stay organized. Besides the professional details of who I am, I believe my personal hobbies also contribute to my vision of being a great teacher and role model. I am an avid reader of various fiction genres especially classic novels. I pleasure read and finish an average ten books a year. As well, I am an active practitioner of yoga which allows me to stay positive about myself and my overall outlook on life. I enjoy additional creative activities such as hiking, biking, painting, dancing, home cooking, and visiting Disneyland.
